An Idaho Moment

This is something you don't see every day. Thank goodness! Goats being herded down the highway in rural America. These goats are used to eat noxious weeds in our state. There are many herds similar to this one and apparently they earn their keep.

There are fat ones, skinny ones, and even some very young ones thrown into the mix. I thought this was worth sharing as I have only seen it one other time. They actually stopped highway traffic to move these goats to a new place and cars did not seem to faze them at all.

I promise to be back to a normal blogging cycle soon. I am suffering from end of the season blahs and trying to get ready for the holidays all at the same time. I suppose I could start sharing my snow pictures with you as that seems to be all there is to see right now. Hope you all have a wonderful Turkey day!

  2. What a big herd. You're right ya don't see that every day. You said the cars didn't seem to affect the goats at all - were the drivers upset at having to wait? LOL What a sight!

  4. I would love to see your pictures of the snow. We get snow once every few years and it melts by the end of the day.

    Great capture, Heather!
Enjoy your T-Giving and don't let the end of season blahs get to you too much ;)

  7. Wow, neat way to take care of weeds. I've heard of goats being used to clear out kudzu here in the south. Happy Thanksgiving!

  8. We have goat herds here in Seattle used regularly for battling weeds and ivy and such, especially on steep slopes where it's difficult for machinery to access. One company is called "Rent a Ruminant". I love it.

  10. Hubba was going to the (only one in town) supermarket a few months ago & he saw a SQUAD of police cars, lights on, moving down the road slowly. Couldn't figure out what was going on, then all of a sudden he sees several cows being herded back to wherever they came from. I wish I'd have seen it. I'd have taken pics too. I love small town life :D

Have a very blessed Thanksgiving, and I hope that the holidays renew your spirits!

  12. That's pretty amazing. I've heard of them being used to eat the blackberry bushes before, but never that many at once.

  13. They do look like extremely confident goats. Or maybe it's just that there are so many of them.

And I just figured you were preoccupied with the donkeys or learning to be a beekeeper so you can tell us all how this spring. Happy Thanksgiving.

  14. Hi Heather~~ I hope the blahs let up soon. This is not my favorite time of the year either. Goat crossing: I hope there weren't any emergency vehicles that needed to get through. LOL Happy Thanksgiving to you too!

  15. Awesome goats. I loved the "Rent a Ruminant" idea mentioned by Anne.
I get the seasonal blahs, too. It doesn't help that my eating habits go down the tube during the cold months and with all the holidays. Hang in there, kiddo!

  16. Sorry about the blahs. Maybe it's just part of a natural cycle of "down time"--we all go through it from time to time. Hopefully, it won't last too long for you.

I liked the pictures of the goats. They are an adorable and sustainable approach to those noxious weeds.

  17. Hi Heather,
I know a guy who would HATE this scene of goats in the street, he is scared of them! I quite like them and think they are kind of entertaining. I hope that you had a great Thanksgiving!

  18. What a hilarious sight! Thanks for sharing!

I hear they do this in Tennessee to help with kudzu. It's definitely better than mass applications of roundup!

  19. That IS something you don't see everyday. Too cute. And what a terrific way to control the weeds.
Hang in there with the blahs, the snow is pretty too, but hard to garden in.
